Welcome to mello, an events-first app for making platonic friends nearby. By creating an account or using mello, you agree to these terms. Read them carefully; they explain what you can expect from us and what we expect from you.
Eligibility
You must be at least 18 years old to use mello. By using the app, you confirm that you are 18 or older, that the information you provide is accurate, and that you have not been previously removed from mello for violating these terms.
mello is for friendship only
mello is strictly platonic. It is a place to find friends and shared activities, not a dating or hookup service.
No romantic or sexual pursuit. Do not use mello to seek dates, romantic relationships, or sexual contact, and do not send unwanted advances of that kind to other members.
Respect the intent. Treat events and chats as what they are: ways to meet people and do things together.
Acceptable use and conduct
mello has zero tolerance for objectionable content and abusive behavior. Reports are reviewed and acted on, typically within 24 hours, and offenders are removed. To keep mello welcoming, you agree not to:
Harass or harm. Threaten, harass, bully, stalk, or intimidate anyone, on or off the app.
Misrepresent yourself. Use a false identity, impersonate someone else, or maintain more than one account to evade enforcement.
Post harmful content. Share content that is hateful, sexually explicit, illegal, or that violates someone else's rights.
Solicit or spam. Use mello for advertising, recruiting, soliciting money, or any commercial scheme that is not an organized event in good faith.
Safety
We verify identity to confirm members are real people, but we do not conduct background checks, and verification is not a guarantee of anyone's conduct. You are responsible for your own safety when meeting people from the app.
Meet smart. Meet in public places, tell someone you trust where you are going, and trust your instincts.
Report concerns. Use the in-app reporting and blocking tools, and contact local authorities in an emergency.
Hosting and attending events
Members create and attend events on their own initiative. mello provides the platform; it does not organize, supervise, or endorse any event.
Hosts. If you host, you are responsible for describing the event accurately, choosing a safe and lawful venue, and honoring what you commit to attendees.
Attendees. If you attend, you do so at your own risk and are responsible for your own conduct and any costs you agree to.
Payments and refundable holds
Some events use a small refundable hold to reduce no-shows. The hold is processed by our third-party payment processor and is released back to you when you attend as agreed.
When a hold may be kept. A hold may be forfeited if you fail to show up without canceling within the window stated for the event.
Paid features. Any optional paid features are described at the point of purchase, and applicable fees are non-refundable except where required by law.
Account suspension and termination
We may suspend or terminate your account if you violate these terms, put other members at risk, or use mello in a way that harms the service. Where reasonable and safe to do so, we will tell you why. You may delete your account at any time.
Disclaimers and limitation of liability
mello is provided on an as-is and as-available basis, without warranties of any kind. We do not guarantee that you will make connections, that events will occur as planned, or that other members will behave appropriately. To the fullest extent permitted by law, mello is not liable for the conduct of any member or for anything that happens at an event.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms as mello evolves. When we make a material change, we will update the date above and, where appropriate, notify you in the app. Continuing to use mello after a change means you accept the updated terms.
